Are you already using Facebook and Twitter and maybe one or two other social media sites like YouTube or Flickr OR maybe not yet but know you should?
Not sure where to start or want to ensure you stay in formed? Read on for great resources that will become indispensable.
I remember when I first started using social media for nonprofit projects. As someone who is adept at doing internet research I quickly discovered that there was great information out there to assist nonprofits organisations in how to use social media to achieve all sorts of outcomes at a fraction of the cost of traditional communication and campaign methods.
BUT how do I find these resources? I here you ask.
Very good question and here I attempt to provide you with a list of links that should be a great starting point.
Some of the best web sites to follow We Are Media is an excellent Wiki that has been around for a while now. This site is managed by the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) and curated by Beth Kanter and her blog is also a must follow. The WeAreMedia.org Wiki is designed to provide folks who are just starting out using social media a great one stop shop resource. The NTEN blog is an excellent way to stay up with all the news and I never miss a post.If you don’t have time to read anything else then the NTEN blog and the WeAreMedia sites are a must read.
SocialBrite.org is a great blog to follow to stay up to date with the latest in social media and all things digital. You will find tutorials and a bunch of free reports which are well worth taking the time to read.
A valuable resource is the Fair Say site which also have excellent email lists (eCampaigning Forum Network is probably the best). On their email list you can join in the conversations and post questions that 9 times out of 10 get a response from some of the most skilled people in the nonprofit sector.
Another excellent resource is Net Squared which focuses on how to use the web for social change. In their own words they want to “To help hundreds of thousands of non-profit organizations (NPOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) successfully utilize the community empowering capabilities of the Internet to increase their impact and achieve social change.”
Care2 has their Frog Loop blog to share their knowledge of nonprofit marketing with digital media.
There is also Nonprofitorg Tech 2.0 social media guide for nonprofits.
Last but by no means least is Techsoup another nonprofit dedicated to helping nonprofits and libraries use digital media for good. Techsoup is a nonprofits who is focused on “….providing other nonprofits and libraries with technology that empowers them to fulfill their missions and serve their communities.”
As this is a resource page I will continue to update and add other resources so maybe save it as a bookmark. And if you have know of any other great resources please contact me via the Contact Me page.
Regards Claire
